The Institute for Social Sciences (ISS) stimulates collaborative research projects between UC Davis social scientists campus-wide that ask new questions or work on questions that had previously been unanswerable.
ISS Executive Committee members assist the director with determining the overall direction of and strategy for the institute, ensuring wide representation across social science disciplines. They review funding proposals, assist with event planning, and represent the institute at university-wide meetings. Committee members may apply for ISS funding, but must recuse themselves from the review process.
Exposure to cutting-edge methods and concepts is essential to excellence in interdisciplinary research and graduate training. ISS Fellows lead Proseminars designed to provide UC Davis graduate students with precisely that kind of exposure.
