Petr Janata (2015-16)

Petr Janata is a professor of psychology. His current research uses music to examine the degree to which mental processes underlying expectancy and imagery are similar, how attention processes underlie auditory experience, and to map the musical structures as they appear in the brain to guide our perception of music.

Janata is a researcher with the UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain. At his lab there, he uses behavioral, functional neuroimaging (EEG/ERP, fMRI), and computational modeling. Janata earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Oregon.

Petr Janata's Fall 2015 Proseminar, led in collaboration with Duncan Temple Lang, was entitled Mining the Social Web: Crowdsourcing Autobiographical Memory Research in the Age of Big Data.

Dr. Janata used his ISS Fellow funds to support a collaborative research project entitled Music-Evoked Remembering in the Age of Big Data, for which he also received an ISS Interdisplinary Seed Grant. Read more about that project here
