Lerma Envisions Indigenous Sovereignty in the 21st Century [Video]

On October 20, 2016, ISS invited Dr. Michael Lerma to present a lecture on the challenges faced by the contemporary movement for Indigenous sovereignty in the United States.

Michael Lerma is an associate professor of politics and international affairs & applied indigenous studies at Northern Arizona University. His research explores the efficacy of traditional Dine (Navajo) institutions of governance and contemporary Indigenous sovereignty. It advocates for future Indigenous Nation-building via consolidation of Indigenous interests and expansion of Indigenous Nation impact on norms of the international political economy. His recent book is entitled Indigenous Sovereignty in the 21st Century: Knowledge for the Indigenous Spring.
